Arsene Wenger hit out at the media during his press conference, insinuating they were not treating Alexis Sanchez as a professional by claiming he would leave in the summer.

  • Wenger not worried about Alexis Sanchez’s contract
  • Believes professionals honour contracts based on his own behaviour
  • Doesn’t understand what ‘all that debate is about’

While Arsene Wenger was making the point that Alexis has 18 months left on his deal (15 now, actually) and that professionals respect their contracts, that is, as you know, absolute nonsense.

Wenger used his own example of never having broken a contract but that simply cannot be applied to players who break them all the time by engineering moves away.

“He has one and half year’s contract,” Wenger said. “I don’t see what suddenly all that debate is about.

“We are professional football people, I don’t understand. Our job is to perform as long as we are somewhere.

“To sign a contract, when I sign a contract I commit until the last day of my contract and that’s what it is to be professional

“So I do not understand this type of anxiety one-and-a-half years before the end of contracts.

“It’s absolutely denying what the professional guy is about.”
