Mauricio Pochettino reckons that there are more important targets for Spurs this season than simply finishing above Arsenal – he wants to think ‘mentally bigger’.

  • Pochettino wants to keep focus on Chelsea, not Arsenal
  • Spurs 4 points off top of table
  • Arsenal travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday, kick-off 4:30pm

Arsenal’s season has been so bad that Spurs are actually going to finish above them for the first time since 1995.

That’s right, no St. Totteringham’s Day; no choruses of ‘It’s happened again’.

As you can imagine, Spurs fans are positively wetting themselves at the prospect of finishing above their north London rivals for the first time in over a fifth of a Century. However, Spurs boss, Pochettino, insists that the club should be above that sort of mentality.

“That is no motivation, and no distraction,” said the Tottenham boss.

“What happens at the end of the season, we will see. Our focus is trying to win. We are not thinking to be above Arsenal, our challenge is to reduce the gap with Chelsea and think of bigger things than only to be above Arsenal.

“One day to achieve big trophies, you must be mentally bigger. You must think about bigger dreams.”

Tottenham are just four points off Chelsea at the top of the table with five games left to play each.

With Arsenal traveling to White Hart Lane on Sunday, the very least the Gunners can do now is prevent that lot from gaining anymore ground in the title race.
