Sol Campbell believes that missing out on Champions League football next season could actually help rejuvenate them.

  • Arsenal 5 points away from top 4
  • Set to miss out on Champions League spot for 1st time under Wenger
  • Campbell believes those in charge will ‘take stock’
  • Players will ‘burn’ for Champions League football

For the first time under Arsene Wenger, it’s looking pretty certain that Arsenal are going to miss out on Champions League football next season.

They’re five points outside the top four with Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United in third, fourth and fifth unlikely to falter.

However, former Gunner, Campbell, reckons that this could actually be a blessing in disguise as it could force those in charge to ‘take stock’ of the current situation.

“It’s not the end of the world if it does happen,” Campbell told Sportsmail.

“There’s always an end to the cycle. I think it could rejuvenate the club and make a lot of people take stock.

“I think it could make (those in charge) be more critical and come up with the right answers.”

The ex-defender also revealed how not being in the Champions League will stop the players taking it for granted.

“When you’re there (the Champions League) then it’s easy, but when you’re out then that’s when you start burning about not being there,” he added.

It’ll be a rude awakening for everyone involved with Arsenal.

While we know it’s going to happen, when next season rolls around and they’re watching the Champions League games from their sofas on TV rather than playing in them, it should hit home if is hasn’t already.
