Despite an awful opening 15 minutes, the Arsenal players warmed into the game against City, which they drew 2-2 allowing Arsene Wenger to praise their mental strength repeatedly.

But how did the players really do?

David Ospina – 7

Although he wasn’t great in the first half, the goalkeeper pulled off some crucial saves to keep Arsenal in the game in the second.

Hector Bellerin – 5

What happened to Hector? Another sub-par performance with the right-back, who’s looking really unfit. Is he even match ready? He allowed Leroy Sane to skip past him with ease for City’s first goal.

Shkodran Mustafi – 7

Despite being positionally poor, Mustafi scored and assisted, which earns him an extra point and a half. Otherwise, he’d be getting a 5.5.

Laurent Koscielny – 6

Kos was bossing it until he was taken off.

Nacho Monreal – 7

This was probably Monreal’s best game of the season or at least one of them. The left-back’s been poor so far this campaign but against City, he managed to turn up and was brilliant going forward, completing 17/20 passes in the final third –  more than Alexis.

Francis Coquelin – 4.5

An early yellow card and generally poor positioning, passing and energy. Why is he still anywhere near the first team?

Granit Xhaka – 5.5

Although the midfielder didn’t do a great deal and conceded an early yellow, he was better than Coquelin, who just appeared lost.

Mesut Ozil – 7

The playmaker created a goal and looked bright. His confidence needs work but he looks like he’s getting there.

Theo Walcott – 7

The forward was anonymous for the first half except for the goal. However, he did grow into the game and showed determination to score the equaliser.

Alexis Sanchez – 6.5

Another frustrating performance from the Chilean. He’s very good at looking like he’s doing a lot without actually doing much. And throwing strops. The opposite of Ozil.

Danny Welbeck – 6

Not a great game up front for the forward but he worked hard and that’s more minutes under his belt on the way to full fitness.

SUBS

Gabriel – 5

You know you’re in trouble when Gabriel comes on for Kos.

The Brazilian was… Gabriel.

In the second half, he dropped Ospina in it when he passed back to him under pressure in the second half.

Alex Iwobi – 5.5

Iwobi’s got the talent and made a positive difference when he came on late in the second half. However, he needs to work on his shooting or give the ball to someone who can.

Olivier Giroud – 5

The big guy didn’t do much after he was brought on.
