OTD Arsenal win first FA Cup ever

On 26 April 1930, Arsenal won their first ever FA Cup against Huddersfield.

Arsenal won the match 2-0 with goals from Alex James and Jack Lambert.

The tie took place at Wembley in front of a massive crowd of 92,486.

The Gunners had beaten Chelsea, Birmingham, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Hull to get to the final in order to clinch the first of 12 FA Cups.

Since, Arsenal have won the trophy in 1935–36, 1949–50, 1970–71, 1978–79, 1992–93, 1997–98, 2001–02, 2002–03, 2004–05, 2013–14 and 2014–15.

They’re joint top with Manchester United, with the Gunners making the final against Chelsea and giving themselves the opportunity to win their 13th. This would make them the most successful team in the FA Cup ever.

Not bad considering Arsene Wenger, who’s won it six times, is often accused of not taking it seriously.

If Wenger wins another FA Cup again this season, he’ll become the most successful manager in the competition ever.
