On 16 April 1962, Arsenal recorded their first win at Old Trafford since 1930.

Despite Manchester United scoring twice through Sammy McMillan and Noel Cantwell, George Eastham, Alan Skirton and Cantwell again (OG) brought the scoreline to 2-3 to the visitors.

The last time Arsenal had beaten United at the Theatre of Dreams Nightmares, was 18 October 1930, when the Gunners won 2-1 with goals from Jack Lambert and Joey Williams.

George McLachlan scored the Red Devils’ only goal.

Arsenal went on to win at Old Trafford the following year on 6 May by 3-2 again. However, after that, they wouldn’t beat United on their own turf until 1970.

I don’t know whether it’s annoying or comforting that Arsenal’s allergy to playing United isn’t new. Far from it. After 1970, the Gunners didn’t managed to beat them away until 1977, then 1979… 1985… 1990… 1998, 2002, 2003, 2006, and 2015.

You get the idea.

Old Trafford has always been a fortress and a particularly difficult ground for Arsenal no matter who was in either team or who was in charge.
