On 7 April 1980, Arsenal played their fourth game in 11 days against Spurs at White Hart Lane and still managed to win 2-1 despite numerous first team chances.

Arsenal initially asked Spurs if they could rearrange the North London Derby seeing as the Gunners were set to play five games in 12 days.

On 28 March, Arsenal beat Everton away 1-0. They then lost 2-1 away to Norwich on 2 April and drew 1-1 against Southampton at Highbury.

Arsenal were set to face Spurs on 7 April, just two days before Juventus in the UEFA European Cup Winners Cup. However, Spurs declined to rearrange the clash.

Arsenal still won 2-1 at White Hart Lane with goals from Paul Vaessen and Alan Sunderland.

The result left Arsenal fourth in League Division One and Spurs 14th.

The Gunners went on to draw 1-1 against Juventus and then win 1-0 away, making it 2-1 on aggregate. However, Arsenal were later beaten by Valencia 5-4 on penalties.
