OTD Arsenal knock Tottenham out of FA Cup semi-final

On 8 April 2001, Arsenal beat Spurs 2-1 in the FA Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.

Spurs had just brought in Glenn Hoddle to replace former Arsenal boss, George Graham, who had been sacked for allegedly sharing private information about the club. However, Hoddle’s first match in charge just so happened to be a North London Derby at Old Trafford.

Tottenham went 1-0 ahead in the 14th minute through Gary Doherty but Patrick Vieira brought the score level before halftime.

Robert Pires made it 2-1 late in the second half to seal the victory and send Arsenal through to the final at the Millennium Stadium.

Unfortunately, the Gunners faced Liverpool in the final and lost 2-1. Despite going a goal ahead through Pires, Michael Owen came through with a late brace.

That season, Arsenal finished second in the Premier League, 10 points behind Manchester United and just one above of Liverpool in third.
