Arsenal youngster, Kelechi Nwakali scored the opening goal for MVV Maastricht but could not stop his side losing 2-1 to Den Bosch in a Dutch second division game in Holland on Friday.

  • Nwakali has 23 league appearances, 2 goals and 1 assist
  • He signed for Arsenal last summer from Diamond Academy for £2.98m
  • His contract with Arsenal runs until 2021

The 18-year-old, who has been in great form for the Jupiler Liga side, opened the scoring in the 63rd minute but two late goals by Den Bosch left his side with nothing.

Maastricht led 1-0 with 27 minutes remaining but Jeremy Fernandes equalised four minutes after Nwakali’s second goal of the season. Luuk Brouwers broke the deadlock with the winner four minutes before full time.

Nwakali, who captained the 2015 Fifa Under-17 World Cup-winning Nigerian team, also has two assists this season.

Maastricht are sixth in the Dutch Jupiler Liga with 56 points from 33 games.
