Arsenal and both Manchester clubs have been linked with a move for Newcastle’s Lewis Gibson after scouting the player.
The 16-year-old defender is patiently waiting to make his professional debut for the Magpies.
He has featured regularly for the u18s this season with impressive defensive displays generating high expectations for the Englishman.
It’s unlikely Arsenal will make an offer for Gibson’s services, given the level of defensive cover at youth level. However, they may opt to monitor his progress, anticipating a senior breakthrough in the coming years.
This could backfire as another top side may respond with a bid to lure him away from Tyneside.
A source told Bleacher Report, “Newcastle have not seen many youngsters come through in recent years, so to lose Lewis would be a huge blow. They had earmarked him for a big future at the club.”
