Marseille are reportedly willing to pay €40m for Olivier Giroud as Rudi Garcia embarks on a rebuild programme.

Marseille have a budget of €40m this summer to buy an attacker they hope to pair with Bafetimbi Gomis to form an ‘explosive duo’.

With nine goals and four assists in the Premier League this season, Giroud is certainly on form when he gets a chance – scoring at a rate of a goal every 88 minutes.

The choice is certainly his.

With Arsenal threatening a major overhaul this summer, both club and player might decide that the time has come to part company. That would be harsh on Giroud who has been underrated since he arrived and has outperformed expectations at every turn.

His reward has been to find himself benched with increasingly regularity, turning into a supersub who may feel a move is best to maximise what time is left in his career.
