Arsenal have been sending officials to watch Toulouse’s 20-year-old centreback, Issa Diop.

  • Toulouse have turned down a €13m offer from Red Bull Leipzig
  • L’Equipe believe Arsenal are ‘preparing an assault’ and that €20m should do it
  • Tottenham also sent officials but player believed to be close to Chelsea

Issa Diop has progressed through the ranks at the French side. This season, he has 23 Ligue 1 appearances with two goals and two assists to his name.

Capped right up to French u21 level, the 6’ 3.6” central defender can play in either slot.

Diop is under contract until 2020 after signing a new deal with Toulouse in December, 2015.

His wages would be more than affordable for Arsenal and we all know there is nothing that Arsene Wenger likes more than a young French player. His price of €20m, while far more than his actual value, is not too far outside the Wenger sweetspot either.

Arsenal officials were reportedly there watching him last month.

How much they have followed up on that interest is not known at this point.

At the start of April it was being reported that he was close to signing for Chelsea for around £15m.
