RMC presenter, Christophe Dugarry, claims that Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi would sort out Arsenal’s midfield ‘fools’.

  • Matuidi has been at PSG since 2011
  • Matuidi has 56 caps for France
  • The midfielder has made 26 Ligue 1 appearances this season

The ex-France international believes that Matuidi is the right man to anchor Arsenal’s midfield, which currently ‘plays at two miles an hour’.

“I see him at Arsenal,” Dugarry said.

“He’ll put some intensity, some desire to win. He’ll help get rid of all those fools who play at two miles an hour in midfield. I’d take him at a club like that.”

With Matuidi’s PSG contract set to run out in 2018, he could be a decent replacement for Francis Coquelin who, despite only signing a new contract with Arsenal in January, is failing to improve. In fact, Coq’s become something of a liability and if the club can bring in anyone who at the very least can hold their position, it’s bound to be an improvement.

Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny are decent enough midfielders but still a bit inexperienced and raw. At the age of 29, a player like Matuidi could give the others the kick they need.

However, knowing Arsene Wenger and his stubbornness, even if he was looking at bringing Matuidi to Arsenal, he wouldn’t now because he’s been told to.
