Arsenal will be looking to secure back-to-back league victories for the first time since January when they host Craig Shakespeare’s Leicester City side on Wednesday evening.

Despite a six-match winning run after Claudio Ranieri’s unceremonious dismissal, Leicester have struggled to maintain consistency and will be eager to get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.

A 4-2 defeat by Everton, Crystal Palace’s second-half comeback, and their Champions League exit at the hands of Atlético Madrid all happened within ten days for the Foxes – who know they have collectively underperformed.

Press conference

Arsene Wenger spoke about the players’ condition having played 120 minutes on Sunday, as well as the importance of remaining consistent between now and the end of the campaign if Arsenal are to achieve an unlikely top-four finish.

It’s basically unknown territory at the moment because yesterday players were on recovery,” Wenger said.

“We will have a medical check today for everybody and see who is available, who is not. Overall, we have nobody really injured after the game.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was excellent during the 2-1 win but left Wembley on crutches. When questioned about the 23-year-old’s condition, Wenger reassured fears that he is again injured.

It was more precautionary, it was not for a bad injury. We will test him today. It’s a foot injury but it’s a kick,” Wenger confirmed.

As a precautionary measure to avoid aggravating the issue, it’s likely that Hector Bellerín will return to the starting line-up and take the Ox’s place, should he not be passed fit to start tomorrow.

Team news

It’s likely that Wenger will rotate his side in some way, with a few changes to the starting line-up.

Francis Coquelin and Mohamed Elneny have both been patiently waiting in the wings for their opportunity to feature more regularly, and it’d make sense to see the latter play alongside Granit Xhaka – fitness permitting.

Despite his best performance of the campaign against City, Nacho Monreal could be rested with Kieran Gibbs’ last league outing having come during a 2-0 win over Hull in February.

It's likely that Monreal will be rested for the fixture against Leicester, whilst Bellerin might return into the starting line-up

It’s likely that Arsenal will start with three centre-backs once more too, whilst either Danny Welbeck or Theo Walcott could start ahead of Olivier Giroud, who still seems fatigued and not at his best.

Shkodran Mustafi (thigh) is sidelined for another few days so it’s likely that the same defensive trio of Gabriel, Koscielny and Holding will start once more.

Possible XI (3-4-2-1): Cech; Gabriel, Koscielny, Holding; Bellerín, Gibbs, Elneny, Xhaka; Alexis, Özil; Welbeck.

The opposition

Leicester themselves have a few injuries to contend with. Captain Wes Morgan (hamstring) is sidelined, as is Algerian striker Islam Slimani (groin).

Defensive midfielder Nampalys Mendy (ankle) has been out of action since early March and is set for surgery, ending his season. It’s likely that the visitors will play a 4-4-2 formation with a twist, changing to a 4-4-1-1 with Shinji Okazaki behind Jamie Vardy in attack.

Vardy is the visitors’ top goalscorer this term with eleven in the league. Despite flattering to deceive for large periods of the campaign, six of his goals have come in their last seven matches and the 30-year-old is scoring more regularly again.

In four previous meetings with Arsenal, he has netted three goals but never been on the winning side.

Will history going to repeat itself again?

Possible XI (4-4-2): Schmeichel; Fuchs, Amartey, Huth, Simpson; Albrighton, Drinkwater, Ndidi, Mahrez; Okazaki, Vardy.
