Martin Atkinson takes charge of Arsenal’s game against West Ham, so what can both sides expect from one of PGMOL’s finest?

Well, the usual really.

Atkisnon will allow West Ham to foul Arsenal rotationally, most likely ignoring many blatant bookable offences only to card Granit Xhaka when he breathes on a Hammer.

Atkinson has issued 114 yellows this season but only two reds. He’s a referee who used to issue a lot of reds but has gone the other way in recent seasons.

This will be his fourth Arsenal game and Arsenal have won one and lost two of the others (win at Sunderland, defeats at Chelsea and City). It’s his first game at the Emirates this season.

In those three matches, he issued a total of 15 yellows to both sides, six of which went to Arsenal players.

I could give you a big list of really bad fouls Atkinson has let go against us, but why bore you? You know him, you’ve seen him before.

One of his two reds this season was issued in a West Ham game – to Aaron Cresswell for two yellows against Crystal Palace.

He’s also taken charge of three West Ham games so far this season – two wins and one defeat – a better record than Arsenal under him, for sure.

In those games, he issued fewer yellows than he did in the Arsenal games, 12 in total (and the red), seven of which went to the Hammers.
