Mauricio Pochettino insists that Spurs have more important matters at hand than finishing above Arsenal.

  • Tottenham are 14 points above Arsenal
  • Spurs haven’t finished ahead of Arsenal under Arsene Wenger
  • Arsenal have won 1 of their last 5 Premier League matches, Spurs have won 5/5

Pochettino claims that Tottenham have more important things to worry about during their remaining games this season than finishing above Arsenal.

Speaking ahead of Spurs’ match against Bournemouth on Saturday, the former Saints boss insisted that his side’s only job right now is to focus on closing the gap on league leaders Chelsea.

“I think we’re playing and fighting for bigger things,” Pochettino said.

“If we look at the bigger picture it’s to try to reduce the gap with Chelsea. I think today it’s not important the gap we have with Arsenal.

“The most important thing is to do our job, try to win games and try to reduce the gap with Chelsea.”

Chelsea are currently seven points clear of Spurs at the top with seven games left to play so while it’s unlikely that they will catch them, it’s a possibility.

What’s far, far more likely, however, is the fact that Tottenham will finish above Arsenal this season for the first time since 1995.

In fact, with Spurs 14 points ahead of the Gunners and seven games left to play, it’s even possible that Pochettino’s side can kill St. Totteringham’s Day during the North London Derby on 30 April.
