One thing anyone interested in football knows is that Arsenal finish fourth no matter how the season unfolds, but is that about to change?

The Gunners have ended up in fourth position six times in last 11 seasons, and since Wenger arrived, they have never ended the season below that position.

With a poor run of form, and currently sitting fifth, seven points behind City with two games behind, there is a massive financial incentive for Arsenal players to push even harder until the end of season so they can return to their top four place.

According to the Times, the squad bonus for a reaching a Champions League spot is set at £5m.

But failure to reach the top four would not only mean players losing bonuses.

This season Arsenal received £46m in payments from UEFA, and missing on that kind of a financial boost would affect any football club.

Last week, Pep Guardiola, who used to win titles with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, said that qualifying for the Champions League has to be considered as good as winning a trophy in the Premier League. Sound familiar?

Arsene Wenger, unsurprisingly, agreed with this statement by saying “I think Guardiola said that in England to be in the top four is a trophy because it’s so difficult.

“So we are in good company to fight for it. I think the first thing for Arsenal was to stop losing, the second is to build up our confidence again.”

A match against Crystal Palace on Monday is a great place to keep on building.
