According to an EXCLUSIVE in the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger is set to make his decision over whether he stays at Arsenal based on the Manchester City game at the weekend.

  • Wenger’s contract runs out at the end of the season
  • Pulis claims Wenger told him he’s staying at Arsenal
  • Wenger is rumoured to be extending by a year
  • Wenger has been at Arsenal 21 years

Apparently, the boss realises that a loss at home against our title rivals – and I use that term loosely – could seriously set the team back in their chase for a top four finish, which is would.

However, Wenger’s already said that he won’t base his decision on just one result or even on whether Arsenal finish in the top four or not.

”My decision will not necessarily be linked with that because I’ve done the top four 20 times. It’s more, it’s not that,” Wenger said. ”I take a bigger perspective than that. It’s not the last result that will decide what I will do.

”It’s not [the end of the world], not any more. That was for a long time the case, but not today. Financially, I mean.

”Of course, on the sporting front it would be a blow, but financially the Champions League does not have the impact any more that it had five or six years ago because of the influx of the television money [to the Premier League].”

What’s more is that the Frenchman claims he’s already made his decision. If he’s already made it, surely the City result on Sunday doesn’t mean anything?

Therefore, this EXCLUSIVE seems to be a load of nonsense.

Saying this, another loss at home, whether it’s to City or not, isn’t going to go down well off the back of a 3-1 loss away to Tony Pulis’ West Brom.

At the moment, Wenger has a tough job to get fans back on side if he is staying.
