Toral feeling ‘great’ after grabbing first Rangers assist

Jon Toral is feeling great at Rangers under new manager, Pedro Caixinha, and grabbed his first assist this weekend.

An attacking midfielder by trade, he is being played in a deeper role with Rangers and the move, coupled with a lack of playing time on loan in Spain, saw him get off to a very slow start in Scotland.

He’s turning it around, however, and was widely praised after his performance this weekend in Rangers’ 4-0 win over Hamilton Academical.

“It was great,” Toral told Rangers TV

“During the week, we worked on it and the boys all bedded in really well and we understood what he wanted from us and I think we will get better with the weeks.

“I’ve played that [deeper role] in the last few weeks under Graeme [Murty] as well so I was a little bit used to it. I had a partner this time, I had Jason, but it was good. I felt comfortable and just trying to help the team.”

About his assist, Toral added, “It was a thing we’ve worked during the week and it paid off and great great finish from Clint.”

Over the weekend it was reported that Toral had signed a new long-term deal with Arsenal before signing with Rangers but it seems like this might not be true.
