Charlton Athletic’s Karl Robinson has backed Stephy Mavididi to succeed at Arsenal despite suffering an injury that cut short his season.

The Addicks manager has been full of praise for the young Arsenal man and took responsibility for overplaying him, leading to the hamstring tear that likely needs surgery.

Speaking in an exclusive with the Daily Star, Robinson said, “He was an absolute credit to Arsenal football club while he was here; talented, grounded and driven to be successful.

“”He’ll be a loss for Charlton but most importantly the kid can’t play football for 14 weeks. I’m more worried about that in some ways.”

Stephy played just 299 minutes for Charlton in League One before he was injured, the highlight of which was an end-to-end solo run.

A scan has revealed that the player should expect to be sidelined for three months. Hopefully this means he will be fit in time for pre-season. A big 2017/18 awaits for the teenager.
