Petr Cech stated the obvious following Arsenal’s 3-1 loss away to Liverpool on Saturday.

The goalkeeper, who made two saves during the match, admitted afterwards that perhaps, just maybe, Arsenal should have been more organised considering we’d had two weeks to prepare for the game.

“We had two weeks to prepare for the game,” the 34-year-old said.

“We knew they were fast on the counter-attack and that they like to press a lot, so we didn’t want to give them a chance to counter-attack.

“In the end it’s very disappointing. The two goals we conceded in the first half were when we were in position, behind the ball and not in immediate danger.

“They always managed to find the opening unfortunately, and that shouldn’t have happened because we should have been organised enough to prevent it.

“We were not at the level we should have been at in the first half, and it’s difficult to say why.

“Alexis came on in the second half and we played much better.”

As footballers at the top level, you would think that the Arsenal players shouldn’t need to be told the basics about their positioning, tracking back and generally not doing stupid stuff, yet here we are.

Although Liverpool are the third best in the Premier League on home soil, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves, League Cup by Southampton and lost 3-2 to Swansea in the League at Anfield.

As a rival, Arsenal should have at least been forcing Jurgen Klopp’s men to break a sweat instead of allowing a team who just lost 3-1 to struggling Leicester to look like world-beaters.

As Cech said, the team – and manager – should have been more organised but it’s worrying that this is even an issue.
