Despite Mesut Ozil not being at his best during the second half of this season at Arsenal, he’s still ahead of Manchester City’s new boy, Leroy Sane.

  • Ozil’s scored 5 goals this season
  • The German in out of contract in 15 months
  • Arsenal face Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday

If you were to pay attention to the media, when he’s not injured, Ozil just lumbers about the pitch for Arsenal, staring at the ball forlornly, remembering better times at Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Sane, 21, is the second coming.

However, when you break down the stats, Ozil still comes out on top just about everywhere.

On average, Ozil makes 62 passes a game to Sane’s 26. He also has a pass completion rate of 87% to the City star’s 79%. On average, Ozil’s dispossessed 1.4 times a game; Sane’s dispossessed 1.9 times.

As you can see in this graphic from Oulala, Ozil also has the higher amount of key passes, goals, assists and shots, all while suffering the most fouls.

Further prove that more often than not, Ozil is just a scapegoat.
