Despite generally being Arsenal’s best player, Alexis Sanchez’s performance against Bayern Munich is one many, the Chilean included, would like to forget.

The forward returned to the starting lineup against Bayern after being dropped to the bench for Liverpool for tactics reasons, although the press say different.

However, the 28-year-old didn’t exactly cover himself in glory after he handed Bayern their second goal to go 2-1 ahead.

Alexis is known for hanging onto the ball for too long and while he can usually recover, against tougher opposition, he can get punished, which is exactly what happened on Tuesday night when Arjen Robben coolly nicked the ball on the edge of the area and scored.

Overall, Alexis had just one shot on target and a pass success rate of 74%, which is actually 1% more than his average, although he was closer to 80% at the beginning of the season.

He attempted six dribbles and five were successful but was dispossessed three times.

When Alexis was subbed off, he got a bit of a mixed reaction from the crowd, who he waved to and then, watching on from the bench, he appeared to laugh from behind his hand when his Chile teammare, Arturo Vidal, scored Bayern’s fifth.

While some may argue that there are people out there who laugh when they’re nervous or uncomfortable, it’s certainly a strange reaction to his team going 10-2 down on aggregate.
