It’s emerged that German publication Bild have been given the rights to serialise Mesut Ozil’s autobiography, which is out on 16 March.

One story they’ve decided to release is Ozil’s bust-up Jose Mourinho while they were both at Real Madrid.

The Manchester United manager was displeased with the amount of effort – or lack thereof – the German international had put into a game. Their altercation ended with Ozil throwing his Real shirt at his manager before storming off to have a shower.

“You think two beautiful passes are enough… You think you’re so good that fifty percent is enough,” it says Mourinho shouted [via Sportwitness].

“He pauses. Stares at me with his dark brown eyes. I stare back. Like two boxers at the stare-down before the first round. He shows no emotion. Just waits for a response from me. How much I hate him right now. And I love Mourinho actually.

Mourinho blasted, “Oh, are you giving up now? You’re such a coward. What do you want? To creep under the beautiful, warm shower? Shampoo your hair? To be alone? Or do you want to prove to your fellow players, the fans out there, and me, what you can do.

“You know what, Mesut. Go ahead and cry! You’re such a baby going to take a shower. We do not need you.”

Ozil claims the incident taught him a valuable life lesson and it does give a fascinating glimpse into what it can be like under managers like Mourinho when not everything goes according to plan. We perhaps forget that managers and players are humans with emotions that bubble over on and off the pitch.

Mourinho interestingly wrote the introduction to Ozil’s autobiography, which shows that the two still have a decent enough friendship or at the very least have respect for one another.

However, I wonder how Arsene Wenger feels about this autobiography coming out at such a crucial part of the season…
