OTD Everton put end to Arsenal’s unbeaten run

On 18 March 2007, Everton put an end to Arsenal’s unbeaten run with a 1-0 victory at Goodison Park.

The Gunners had been seven games unbeaten in the League with their last loss coming against Sheffield Wednesday on 30 December.

However, the Toffees put a stop to Arsenal’s fantastic streak with a single goal from Andrew Johnson in extra time.

After this, the Gunners didn’t manage another League win until 15 April, losing away to Liverpool (4-1), West Ham (0-1) and drawing with Newcastle 0-0.

After the draw against the Magpies, Arsenal managed to go until the end of the season unbeaten in the League and finished fourth, level on points with Liverpool in third.

Manchester United won the title and Chelsea finished second – 15 points ahead of Liverpool and Arsenal.

Elsewhere, Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup in their fifth round replay against Blackburn and lost the League Cup final 2-1 to Chelsea.

Although they made it to the final 16 of the Champions League, PSV Eindhoven knocked them out 2-1 on aggregate.
