On 1 March 2005, Arsenal beat Sheffield United 4-2 on penalties during their FA Cup replay en route to winning the trophy.

Arsenal had already beaten Stoke (2-1) and Wolves (2-0) to make it to the FA Cup fifth round but couldn’t seem to grind out a win against Sheffield United, drawing 1-1 at the Emirates and forcing the tie to a replay at Bramall Lane. Robert Pires scored the Gunners’ only goal.

Again, the Blades managed to hold Arsenal to a 0-0 draw, which resulted in the Gunner eventually winning 4-2 on penalties.

Lauren, Patrick Vieira, Freddie Ljungberg and Ashley Cole all put theirs away. However, United’s Alan Quinn and Jon Harley failed.

Arsenal went on to beat Bolton (0-1) and Blackburn Rovers (3-0) before facing Manchester United in the final at the Millennium Stadium.

Despite not playing amazingly, Arsenal managed to force United to a 0-0 draw and eventually won 5-4 on penalties due to Jens Lehmann saving Paul Scholes’ spot-kick.

Arsenal wouldn’t win another trophy until 2014 when they beat Hull 3-2 in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
