OTD Arsenal beat Juventus on way to Champions League final

On 28 March 2006, Arsenal beat Juventus 2-0 in the Champions League quarter-final.

After finishing top of Group B, Arsenal reached the final 16 of the Champions League, where they faced Real Madrid and beat the La Liga giants 1-0 on aggregate.

Next, the Gunners were drawn against Juventus, winning the first leg at Highbury with goals from Cesc Fabregas and Thierry Henry. The game also saw red cards for the Serie A side’s Mauro Camoranesi and Jonathan Zebina. They drew the away leg 0-0 and progressed 2-0 on aggregate.

Now through to the semi-finals, Arsenal then won 1-0 against Villarreal to make the final against Barcelona.

The controversial final at Stade de France ended 2-1 to Barca.

Elsewhere, Arsenal were knocked out of the FA Cup by Bolton after winning it the previous season, as well as Wigan in the League Cup.

The Gunners finished fourth in the Premier League behind Chelsea at the top, Manchester United in second and Liverpool in third.
