OTD Arsenal beat Everton en route to Wembley

On 8 March 2014, Arsenal beat Everton 4-1 in the FA Cup quarter-finals en route to Wembley.

Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2014 for the first time in nine years.

After beating Spurs (2-0), Coventry (4-0) and Liverpool (2-1), the Gunners faced more Premier League opposition in the form of Everton in the quarter-finals.

Despite the scoreline being 1-1 at the break thanks to an early goal from Mesut Ozil and equaliser from Romelu Lukaku, a brace from Olivier Giroud and penalty from former Toffee midfielder, Mikel Arteta, sealed the deal.

As a result, Arsenal faced Wigan in the semi-final, who the Gunners beat 4-3 on penalties, and, as we all know, Hull in the final (3-2).

After Ozil had signed for Arsenal in 2013, this looked as if the club had reached a turning point, despite finishing third in the Premier League and getting dumped from the League Cup by Chelsea.

Arsenal went on to win the FA Cup again the following season.
