OTD Arsenal beat Chelsea in FA Cup replay on way to trophy

On 25 March 2003, Arsenal beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge during their FA Cup sixth round replay.

After beating Oxford (2-0), Farnborough (1-5) and Manchester United (0-2), Arsenal played host to Chelsea at Highbury in a match which ended 2-2 thanks to goals from John Terry, Frank Lampard, Francis Jeffers and Thierry Henry.

The tie went to a replay at the Bridge, which the Gunners managed to win 3-1 with goals from John Terry – at both ends – Sylvain Wiltord and Lauren.

Arsenal went on to beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 in the FA Cup semi-finals at Old Trafford before coming away with the trophy following a 1-0 victory against Southampton in Cardiff.

Elsewhere, the Gunners came second in the Premier League – five points behind winners United – and were knocked out of the League Cup in the third round by Sunderland (2-3).

In the Champions League, Arsenal failed to make it past the second group stage after only managing to beat Roma. The second group stage featured the eight group winners and eight group runners-up from the previous group stage, in which Arsenal came first.
