He once declared that he wanted to be the world’s greatest striker but Nicklas Bendtner has just signed for Rosenborg before he’s hit 30.

“I was at a point where I needed to take a good decision,” Bendtner said.

“Rosenborg is a good choice for me. I must be in a place where I’m happy and fit. That’s the feeling I got here from the start,” he added at a press conference in Marbella to announce his signing.

“I think I’m going to thrive in the city. My first impression of what Mike and our other players have told me is very positive. Of course it is not London but I think I’m going to thrive in the city.”

Rosenborg hail from Trondheim with a population of 178, 021. The population in London is 8.674 million. Playing in the Eliteserien (formerly Tippeligae), Norway’s top league, at the Lerkendal Stadion, their home capacity crowd is 21,850.

He has signed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Norweigan side just three years after refusing to leave Arsenal because he wanted to join a Champions League side.

An awful spell at Wolfsburg, which saw his contract cut short, was followed by a free move to Nottingham Forest.

He cost Rosenborg just £650k. Bendtner is also expected to take a massive paycut with Ekstra Bladet describing him as being on ‘starvation wages.’

Add his name to the list of players who could have had it all but could never find the right direction.
