Per Mertesacker faced some tough questions on Monday during Arsene Wenger’s pre-Bayern presser.

The centreback, who’s yet to play this season due to knee surgery in the summer, admitted that being asked so many questions about just one player (*cough* Alexis Sanchez) is actually quite distracting for the team.

“[Wenger] has got 25 options now,” the German said.

“I approach every training.

“Everybody wants to push. It’s about chances and taking chances.

“It’s not about one single player. All these questions about one player is very distractive [sic] to the team. We have a game to face tomorrow.”

It’s understandable that Per would want to direct talk away from the Chilean. It seems to be an uncomfortable subject and he was there to talk about Bayern. Although he probably expected it.

It does feel as if Arsenal have become Alexis FC over the past couple of months with speculation over the 28-year-old’s future at an all-time high. I’m not surprised that Per’s sick of talking about the guy – I am too!

Arsenal face Bayern on Tuesday hoping to overturn a 5-1 deficit. Since Per was in the presser, he could get the nod, which would be an interesting decision. Almost as interesting as dropping Alexis…
