Stephy Mavididi was reportedly in tears when he learned his season was over after tearing his hamstring against Bury.

The Arsenal forward, who had been rocking it since he arrived at Charlton on loan, was stretchered off at the weekend.

“It’s going to be 14-16 weeks,” Addicks manager, Karl Robinson explained.

“Hopefully he’ll have an operation by the end of the week, it’s come away from the bone we think. The kid was in tears this morning on the phone to me. The overriding emotion from that was sickening. The kid’s been tremendous for us.

“We wish Stephy the quickest recovery possible. He’s a credit to his family, a credit to Arsenal FC.

“I’d hope to have him back next year but that’s in the hands of Arsenal.

“I spoke to Ian Wright today and he gave him a phonecall for me to try and gee him up and talk about the injuries he’s had.

“We’ll do everything possible we can emotionally to support him and get him back on his feet. He’s a tremendous kid and a tremendous talent, it’s a real sickener to all of us.”

After the injury, Robinson admitted the injury had been his fault for overusing the player.

Charlton lost, 4-3, at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night, a Ricky Holmes hattrick not enough to even grab a point. After the game, manager Karl Robinson, was scathing in his assessment of his team.

“Too many people have been getting away with things for too long and some of the players don’t deserve the Charlton Athletic shirt,” explained Robinson.

“I feel gutted for Ricky Holmes in there. We could hear the fans singing about ‘a team of Ricky Holmes’s’ – we wouldn’t be where we are if we did.

“He wasn’t the only one. I thought Lee Novak put in a right shift and the captain showed, but obviously towards the end, once the game becomes open, it’s not his game anymore and we had to make a change.

“I wish I could be honest and speak about how big some of the problems are. Let’s take away ownership, managerial change, let’s focus on the problem – we’ve not won enough games on the pitch.

“At some stage, the players have to stand up and be counted and it’s hard as a manager because you’ve got to keep the motivation strong, but this only confirms what I knew.

“I’m frustrated and I feel sorry for the fans because they travelled four-and-a-half hours to watch that. That’s discipline, that’s desire and that’s caring for your club,” he said.

“Perhaps we should get some of them to play?”

We wish Stephy a speedy and full recovery. Gutting news.
