Monaco’s manager, Leonardo Jardim, said that ‘news is assumptions’ when asked about his thoughts on the Arsenal job with which he has been heavily linked.

  • Monaco top Ligue 1 by 3 points cannon balls rating 2
  • Jardim one of a number of names linked with Arsenal job
  • His contract expires in 2 years – just when Wenger will be up for another new deal
  • Jardim sees no difference in beating Arsenal and City in Champions League

Speaking in an exclusive with O Jogo, Jardim said, “There are a lot of maybes in football and that does not count for me.

“What counts is the French championship and the conviction that something good can happen this season. That’s what we need to be focused on.

“News is assumptions, ideas.

“[I] Do not know,” he continued when asked if he would like a project in England.

“I am so focused on Monaco, especially at this stage, that I do not even think about the future.

“I have two years of contract and I feel good. I do not know if I’m going to be the Ferguson of Monaco.”

He also spoke about knocking both Arsenal and Manchester City out of the Champions League over recent seasons. To Jardim, there is no difference between the Arsenal and City wins, both are equally important.

“The quarter-finals we reached with Arsenal were just as important to me as these now, where we eliminated Manchester City,” he said.

“Of course, being on the other side of Guardiola, which everyone is arguing about, who trained great clubs and who, in seven Champions League, has never failed to reach the semi-finals, gave more emphasis to this victory.

“But for me it was equally meritorious.”
