Invincible and former Arsenal defender, Lauren, has revealed that he hopes Arsene Wenger stays at the club.

  • Wenger’s contract runs out at the end of this season
  • Lauren played for Arsenal under Wenger from 2000-2006
  • The defender made 159 league appearances and scored 7

In an interview with TODAY while away in Singapore to celebrate their Arsenal fan clubs’ 10th anniversary, Lauren revealed that he not only wants Wenger to remain at the club but reckons that a deal has already been agreed, which makes sense.

“As far as I know, there is already an agreement between the club and Wenger to be announced in the coming weeks, or at the end of the season,” Lauren said.

“Hopefully, Wenger will stay and build a stronger team and sign better players during the transfer window.”

Everyone knows that Arsenal as a club love Wenger and there’s always been a new deal on the table for him to accept, it’s just been up to the Frenchman to decide whether he wants to stay or not.

Contrary to what was being reported weeks ago, there’s more and more pointing to Wenger extending his current Arsenal deal past the summer.

Speaking about the fan unrest, Lauren insists that he understands the frustration as a part of the club himself but believes people need to be a little more forgiving.

“We understand because we are all part of Arsenal,” Lauren said.

“We’re all frustrated, we want Arsenal to win everything, but we have to understand that it’s not easy.

“If you look at Manchester City and the amount they’ve spent over the years, they still haven’t managed to win the title every single year.

“So it’s not easy — the rival teams are all much stronger now than before … Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have all strengthened greatly as well.

“For now, let’s see how the team finishes at the end of May and from then on, we can look at the bigger picture. But I think us fans must try to remain positive and give them our support.

“If we sign the right players, then next season I think the team will be able to make Arsenal fans happy.”
