Lorenzo Insigne is reportedly set to sign a new contract with Napoli after being linked with Arsenal throughout February.

The forward’s current contract with the Serie A club expires in 2019 with him and his agent reportedly negotiating the terms of a new one for some time. For a while, it seemed that Insigne and Napoli were finding it hard to reach an agreement over personal terms.

Enter Arsenal: the club all agents appear to love using in order to get their client a better deal. By pretending that Arsenal, among other clubs, are interested in a player, it makes said player seem worth more. Thus helping them get a better deal.

Remember Mauro Icardi? His wife/agent, Wanda Nara, confirmed interest from Arsenal and Spurs over the summer only for him and consistently, publicly flirted with the idea of a move to the Premier League only to extend his existing deal with Inter.

With Insigne reportedly set to sign a new deal with Napoli, which will take him up until 2022 and is said to earn him a £2.62million annual salary excluding add-ons and bonuses, it looks as if the same thing’s happened here. Although of course, this might not be the case.

Roma, Milan, Liverpool and Tottenham were also linked with the 25-year-old, who’s scored 10 Serie A goals this season.
