William Gallas has explained one of the differences between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger when it comes to the pair on the training ground and it’s pretty much as you would expect.

Speaking on SoccerAM, Gallas revealed that the Frenchman’s philosophy in training sessions is based on getting players to take personal responsibility, something Mourinho seems to try and avoid (until things go wrong). Mourinho is also famous for the work-rate he demands from all his players, something Gallas backs up.

“Both managers want to win trophies but with Jose he will show you every day at training [what needs to be done],” Gallas said.

“If you are not 100% he will stop the training and say to you ‘what’s wrong with you? Why don’t you train?

“If you don’t want to train just go outside and run, because what I want and what I expect from you is to give me everything’.

“And with Arsene it’s a little bit different.

“You have to be more responsible to manage yourself so he won’t be behind you all the time and that makes a difference.

“So for me it was very good to be with one manager who was always behind me.”

Although William Gallas spent four years at Arsenal, most fans would struggle to think of any positive memories. They will, however, remember him wanting the sacred number 10 shirt, being handed the captain’s armband, and sitting in the middle of the pitch throwing a huff.

I wonder how Mourinho would have reacted to that…
