Petr Cech will spend the next four weeks on the sidelines as he recovers from the calf injury he picked up against West Brom.

The shotstopper, who was voted Czech Player of the Year for a record ninth time this week, said at the awards ceremony that he would be out for ‘weeks’.

Now, a scan has shown the extent of the damage and we will be stuck with David Opsina for Manchester City, West Ham, Palace, and Middlesbrough. Cech could be back for the FA Cup semi-final, but Ospina was always going to play in that anyway as the cup keeper.

In other injury news, Alexis Sanchez is fit to face Argentina with Chile after meeting with their medics and taking part in a training session.

Mesut Ozil has been ruled out of Germany’s farewell game for Lukas Podolski on Wednesday night against England with the hamstring problem that kept him out of the West Brom game.

Conspiracy theorists everywhere are currently searching around for another theory.

Podolski will captain Germany in this game.
