Arsenal are still in the process of finding a replacement Academy chief following Andries Jonker’s move to Wolfsburg.

Jonker recently signed an 18-month contract with the Bundesliga team, taking over from former manager, Valérien Ismaël, and brought our Under-15s coach Freddie Ljungberg with him.

The Academy is said to be in “safe hands”, according to Ivan Gazidis, with Luke Hobbs. However, he’s not being considered as a long-term candidate for the job.

An Arsenal spokesperson spoke with Training Ground Guru recently to insist that the club aren’t panicking.

“This is not a decision that is made overnight,” they said. “It’s a crucial important position that needs to be filled sooner rather than later, but we aren’t panicking.”

Although Steve Morrow, Pep Segura, Mark Warburton and legend Dennis Bergkamp have all been linked with the role, the spokesperson claimed this was “mere speculation”.

Could Arsenal be deliberately holding out on choosing a new Academy chief because there may be a new first team manager in the summer? If Arsene Wenger leaves, there will probably be a shake up of the club from top to bottom, including the Academy.

Wenger is set to make his decision regarding his future at Arsenal, or at least announce it, in March or April.
