According to GFFN, Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi was in attendance at the Stade Louis II for Monaco’s Champions League clash against Manchester City with many assuming that the Gunners are still interested in striker Kylian Mbappe.

Arsene Wenger recently confirmed approaching the 18-year-old, who scored in both legs against City, last year and now it looks as if Arsenal could be scouting him again.

“I approached him last year because I really believe that he has an exceptional future ahead of him,” revealed Wenger earlier in March.

“Unfortunately today, all these young players are in full view from very, very early on and all the big clubs want them.

“I hope the fact that everybody is already talking of nobody but him isn’t going to have a negative impact on his future.”

However, while it’s possible that Grimandi could have been scouting Mbappe, Monaco have numerous top players, including Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva and Fabinho. All of which Arsenal could have been looking at during their win over City.

Following the match, Mbappe was understandably thrilled with his display as well as the performance of his team.

“See my eyes, I have eyes that shine, it’s really incredible,” he gushed post-match.

“I savor and hope that this is only the beginning. Clearly it’s a feat, against a Manchester City team that is one of the best in Europe, with world-class players, and we were able to raise our level and be up to par.

“We really wanted to show them from the start that it was not their day, it was ours. We settled in their camp, we did not let them play, and almost every occasion made a goal and it put a moral blow to them to return to half time at 2-0, I think they had not foreseen that.

“In the second half, we retreated, they forced us back, they began to break the lines with certain passes, including De Bruyne and Silva. But we showed that we had character and we went back to attack to mark the third goal that qualified us.”

Monaco meanwhile are convinced they’ll keep the Frenchman.

“Our intention is to keep Kylian Mbappe. He is a product of our youth academy. He is our DNA. I am very proud,” Vide-president Vasilyev told RTL after the City game.

“We have a real team. The first half [against City] was excellent – the sort of performance that the very top teams make.”
