According to reports, Liverpool and Arsenal are ready to fight over Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

  • Asensio came through the ranks at Mallorca
  • The youngster has been capped twice for Spain’s first team
  • Asensio has until 2022 left on Real Madrid contract
  • He spent last season on loan at Espanyol

Starsport claims that the 21-year-old is valued by Real at £40m. However, club president, Florentino Perez, apparently doesn’t want to let him go since he’s such a ‘hot prospect’.

After signing from Mallorca in 2014, Asensio spent two seasons on loan. First, back at Mallorca and then at Espanyol. This season, he’s made 15 La Liga appearances for Real’s first team and scored three goals.

The youngster can play as a midfielder but has been used on the wing since returning from Real, so he’s clearly a versatile attacking player. However, he’s yet to really cement a regular spot in the La Liga giants’ competitive first team.

The links with Arsenal and Liverpool appear to have originated in Spanish outlet, Don Balon, with Sevilla and Juventus also reportedly interested.
