Some Arsenal fans are allegedly planning on flying a plane trailing a banner over the Hawthornes, and it’s been met with groans of embarrassment from large numbers of fans who don’t want to be connected with it in any way.

Arsenal’s recent struggles have been well-documented over the past few weeks. The side’s 5-0 FA Cup win over Lincoln City was only their third victory in eight (all competitions), just highlighting how poor form has been since the start of 2017.

Watford, Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern twice have all picked up victories at Arsenal’s expense. What seemed like a genuine title challenge going into the new year has faltered dramatically. Again.

Naturally supporters are tired of the same issues rearing their ugly head every season. Inconsistency after a period of encouragement, followed by good results when the pressure is off.

So, what’s happened now?

Plenty have voiced their discontent about the way the club is being run. That’s understandable. Protesting and showing eagerness for a change is also fair enough. What isn’t, is what could potentially happen next weekend.

Arsenal are set for an away clash with West Brom next Saturday. According to Twitter, an aeroplane will be flying over the Hawthorns with a message for both Wenger and the board:

This was met online by a lot of fans who didn’t see any good in this idea at all:

“Arsenal are an embarrassment, a European laughing stock, what can we do about this?”

“Let’s copy the exact thing that people still mock United for!”

“Genius!” said one.

“Okay. I could not care less personally. I think a normal protest, walking down the road with banners is alright. But planes and such, that is when it just gets to a “stop embarrassing yourselves.” state.” Said another.

“That is just a tad bit too far in my opinion. I don’t mind the protests but a plane flying over the stadium is just disrespectful,” added Howizzle90.

The list went on.

Two seasons ago, the first infamous banner was unravelled at full-time during a 1-0 victory at the Hawthorns.

This in itself was embarrassing.

It highlights the morons who give Arsenal’s fanbase such a poor reputation whilst showing a lack of respect for someone that has been in charge for 20 years.

You might want him to leave, but there are ways of expressing this.

Making the entire fanbase look like a bunch of ungrateful idiots is not one of them.
