Chuba Akpom is set to snub England and declare for Nigeria according to a report in the Independent.

  • Akpom has 4 England u21 caps
  • Forward has been training with Nigeria
  • Super Eagles confident they’ve persuaded him to join Alex Iwobi

Back in 2015, Akpom was more than a little excited to be turning out for England. Ahead of a game for the u21s, he said, “I grew up in east London, but I now live round the corner from The Hive – so to potentially be playing a game for England so locally is very exciting.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”

Although he has not yet made a concrete decision, Akpom is said to be leaning towards the NFF and has been training with Nigeria this week at the same ground he was so excited to play at with England.

Nigeria are confident that they have convinced Akpom to follow in Alex Iwobi’s footsteps, after he declared for the Super Eagles ahead of England and now has 9 caps despite being a year younger than Chubs.
