Former Gunner, Charlie Nicholas, reckons that if Mesut Ozil extends his Arsenal deal, Jack Wilshere will leave the club.

Wilshere’s currently on loan with Bournemouth and, despite recent injury concerns, has been having a brilliant season, getting plenty of time on the pitch and impressing the Cherries’ fans.

Therefore, although his contract runs out in 2018, the same as Ozil’s, most Gooners are hoping that he’ll return to north London and become the midfielder he was always predicted to be.

However, Nicholas believes that if Ozil extends, Wilshere will go.

“He’ll leave if Ozil commits,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“That, obviously, is a big ‘if’ right now though.

“He’s done well in a tough position at Bournemouth and quite a few of big clubs will be interested

“I personally would want him to stay if they got the right money for Ozil.”

I don’t agree with this since Wilshere and Ozil are different types of players. Wilshere can play deeper as a defensive midfielder behind Ozil as well as help drive play, while Ozil is an out-and-out playmaker. In fact, seeing the two play together would be rather exciting.

I don’t think Wilshere’s decision on his future at Arsenal is down to anyone other than himself and whether he’s given reassurances that he will get regular football. If Wenger, or whoever’s after Wenger, can’t promise him this, then he’ll leave.
