Arsene Wenger revealed after Arsenal’s embarrassing 3-1 loss away to Chelsea the true extent of Hector Bellerin’s concussion.

When Marcos Alonso scored in the 13th minute, Bellerin was the only player to attempt to keep the ball out of the back of the net. Alonso rose slightly higher than the 21-year-old, allowing his elbow to lead, firming smacking Bellerin in the face and sending him crashing to the ground.

Four minutes later, the right-back was subbed off for Gabriel and for many that was the turning point in the game since, despite the early goal, we weren’t looking too bad in  the opening exchanges.

Looking back at videos and pictures, Alonso’s elbow to Bellerin’s face was clearly visible, as was the fact that the Spaniard’s eyes appeared to roll back into his skull and he didn’t make any attempt to break his fall, suggesting that he was out cold.

Post-match, Wenger confirmed that this was the case and that he was so concussed that he didn’t even know the scoreline when asked:

Although there’s a mandatory rest period with concussion, Arsenal’s next match isn’t until next Saturday so he should be fine by then.

Hopefully.

Get well soon, Hector.
