Remember Achille Degan, the fifth-tier French footballer who reportedly set up camp outside London Colney? Well, it seems he actually managed to talk with Arsene Wenger.

The 24-year-old winger who ‘set up camp’ outside Arsenal’s training ground in the hope of getting a trial has given an EXCLUSIVE to the Daily Star (again) in which he explains why Wenger refused to sign him despite him traveling all the way from Radlett.

“I met Arsene Wenger on Sunday and I had the chance to talk to him,” Degan said.

“I asked him if there was a possibility I could train with the team.

“Unfortunately he told me it would not be possible.

“He told me the transfer window was closed and he would not be able to do anything for me now.

“He gave me encouragement and I had some kind words with him.

“I assured him Arsenal’s poor form would not continue and they we went our separate ways.”

It sounds as if Wenger was just being polite although it’s nice to see that he at least saw him, I can imagine it was partly to make him just go away.

degan transfer talks

Contrary to the Star’s headline, there were no ‘transfer talks’. The player simply had a chance to speak with Wenger, not negotiate a deal, and even then, we can only take Degan’s word for it since the boss hasn’t been asked about it yet.

The Frenchman seems to have a plucky attitude, although a little desperate. Fortunately, it seems he’s taking no for an answer.
