Arsene Wenger has admitted that watching his Arsenal side against Chelsea was ‘difficult’ and that the result against Watford had a bigger effect than expected.

Yawn.

“That defeat against Watford had bigger consequences, maybe, than expected,” Wenger said.

“We didn’t create enough. In the final third we didn’t look dangerous enough.

“That was difficult to watch from upstairs.

“I’m not subdued. I’m disappointed and angry because we lost a very big game.

“The title has slipped further out of our hands and there’s no hiding that.”

After admitting that his players were not mentally focused enough on Watford, serious questions have to be asked about this side’s ‘mental strength’ and how Wenger is preparing them for matches. A big part of his job is to not only get players ready for games but to also deal with them after they’ve taken a heavy blow.

Although Arsenal started well against Chelsea and could have been at least level by the break, the way they capitulated in the second was not new.

This is an ongoing issue. They are mentally weak. No matter how many times we’re told they are the opposite, you can’t help feel Wenger doth protest too much.
