A very cold Stephy Mavididi has given his first interview as a Charlton Athletic player.

The highly rated striker has joined the League One club on loan until the end of the season after hitting fantastic form for Arsenal’s youth team.

The 18-year-old scored six Premier League 2 goals and assisted once in 11 appearances, while also netting two in six in the UEFA Youth League this season alone.

Speaking as a Charlton player, Mavididi admitted that the move wasn’t exactly a surprise considering the fact that he heard rumours back in the summer.

“I’m really excited,” he said. “This is my first loan so it’s a big opportunity for me and a stepping stone in my career. It’s something that I really want to do so I’m looking forward to the experience.”

He later added, “I first heard in the summer and as time went on, in January, my coach told me that Charlton are interested.”

Arsenal have a history of loaning players to Charlton and the youngster admitted this is part of the reason he’s so excited for his spell there.

“Yeah, [I want to follow in the footsteps of] Francis [Coquelin] and Yaya Sanogo. A few of the lads that have come from Charlton have done really well and have said nothing but good things about the club so that really attracted me.”

Arsenal and Charlton clearly have a good working relationship or we wouldn’t keep sending promising youth players there on loan. Hopefully, Mavididi’s spell also works out well.

And they give him a jacket at some point.
