Arsenal were linked with former Stoke City star, Steven N’Zonzi, earlier in the January transfer window but now the midfielder has crushed our dreams (/sarcasm) by signing a contract extension with his current club, Sevilla.

The 28-year-old, has signed on with the La Liga club until 2020 after joining them from Stoke in 2015. Although I could be wrong, the vague link seems to have been N’Zonzi’s agent angling for a better deal for his client and therefore trying to make the midfielder seem desired by other clubs. It worked, at least.

Although I wouldn’t mind another defensive midfielder at Arsenal and there’s no disputing N’Zonzi’s Premier League experience, I’m not sure he was the right guy.

While at Stoke, N’Zonzi made 120 appearances over the course of just three seasons and was one of their key players for a long time. He even scored seven goals and assisted four. However, while at Sevilla, he’s already featured 76 times since 2015 and scored the same amount. There’s no doubt that they want to keep hold of him.
