Jon Toral found no room in the Rangers’ matchday squad that lost to Dundee on Sunday.

The Spaniard, who had been brought to the club by Mark Warburton, a manager who previously took him to Brentford, was sent north after a poor loan in Spain. Now it seems as if this one might not go any better.

There were a few questions after the game from Rangers’ fans, wondering where he was and what he had to do to get a game ahead of Andy Halliday, who played 78 minutes before being replaced by Jason Holt.

But the reality is Toral is an unknown to current caretaker manager, Graeme Murty, whereas he was a personal favourite of Warburton’s. Who knows how much politics is in play here and how much is simply Murty sticking with what he knows? Toral could also be carrying some sort of injury, although nothing has been mentioned.
