Calum Chambers started and completed the full 90 minutes as Middlesbrough kept a clean sheet in a goalless draw with Everton.

As we covered yesterday, the 22-year-old defender’s message was for those with him in their Fantasy Premier League squads to “keep the faith,” and he did his reputation no harm with a decent defensive display.

In terms of his position, Chambers was once again deployed at right-back with Antonio Barragan not involved. Most of Everton’s promising attacks came from the centre or left-hand side of the pitch meaning Chambers didn’t need to make numerous defensive interventions like he has done this season alongside Ben Gibson.

Upon reflection though, he will be disappointed about the way in which Ademola Lookman was able to weave past him and fashion a goalscoring opportunity after 68 minutes. He has shown the capability to keep up with and reduce chances created from quick attack-minded players but needed more defensive support from Adama Traoré when out of possession.

Victor Valdes was forced into a handful of good reaction saves to deny the visitors as they pressed for an all-important goal. Boro themselves dominated for large periods and should’ve scored on a few occasions.

It’s a respectable point from the hosts’ perspective given Everton’s form of late.

Chambers also appeared to play through pain after sustaining a knock late in the first-half.
